Most professional golfers will use a tee from the tee box (including when choosing to hit an iron), even when the lie with the tee box area is close to perfect. There are three reasons for this; 1. All professional (and non-professional) golfers like to ensure a perfect club face to ball contact, so to that end, teeing up a ball will minimise any contact with a blade of grass. 2. Another reason is that; the tee box area is not the same as the fairway because it is generally elevated turf. As such the tee area is generally a more compacted surface due to the preparation, such as rolling. So the normal function a golf swing to take a divot (after contact with the ball) is minimised by the raising of the golf ball. This reduces any potential damage to the wrists of the golfer, due to the harder tee box surface. 3. But the main reason is, because the rules of golf say you cannot tee up a ball anywhere else on the golf course, ergo, teeing the ball must provide some advantage.
The point here is that I’m employing a particular swing, for me, that I technically understand. I know ahead of time what may go wrong, what I’ll do to save it, and where the miss goes. No trying stuff to “see if it works today” and absolutely no “hit it and hope.” This is how good golfers play well. The proper balance and control area in the swing, by the way, isn’t in the legs. It’s just above the belt buckle in a spot martial artists and eastern meditative exercisers call the Dan Tien. The lower abdominals, not the upper ones we use for situps and crunches, are the key to a stable golf pivot and employing the torso to add swing speed. Pilates exercises hit those lower abs. Learn to pivot that Dan Tien, point it at a spot on the ground way in front of the ball and then rotate your shoulders/arms/hands to catch up to the Dan Tien. You’ll hit a lot of good golf shots, first tee or anywhere else.
While generally using tee is more efficient, but not always, especially when personal reference is involved. Some courses also use a very loose sand platform that, they are so~ soft that they became like a tee everywhere. I use a tee on par 3, but I slam the tee very deep that is only about 5 mm high. That way, I do not need to change my swing compared to no tee. However, I encourage you to play the “forward” tees, or the “middle” tees, “red” tees, or “white” tees or “green” tees. I think the days of tee boxes being named after a gender, or being associated with an age, are gone. Or it should be. The reason is because the old names of tee boxes limits which ones players are willing to use because of ego or embarrassment.
