Jordan, a retail consultant and stylist, and Parker, a hairstylist, first met in Santa Fe back in 1978. It was love at first sight. “Robert applied for a hairdressing position at a salon where I was the manager,” Jordan says. “I remember vividly that he was wearing green army pants, a pale yellow shirt, and loafers with no socks. Wearing no socks today is quite the norm, however in 1978, this was shocking. When he walked through the door, I just thought, Wow!” Since then, the couple recently celebrated 44 years of partnership together, though they legally married back in 2013. Though cohesive in feel, they say they have entirely different fashion vibes. “My personal look is very matchy-matchy; looking like I made an effort,” says Jordan (who cites his close friend, the iconic Iris Apfel, as an inspiration). “I can easily put together low-end or vintage with high-end, designer, or custom made [pieces]. Of course, that look isn’t complete without accessories, lots of accessories!”
Parker, meanwhile, says he enjoys dressing as different “characters,” and that what he wears depends on his mood. “My personal style is eclectic, high and low,” Parker says. “Depending on the day, it can be flannel with jeans, or a wig with a dress. No rules of gender! I also have a growing collection of silver jewelry, usually with no stones.” Although they each hold their own distinctive inspirations and style curiosities, they do often swap pieces, and even share a closet. “We can wear each other’s clothes and put them together completely differently,” Parker says. Jordan adds, “Robert is a little more casual than I am. I prefer a more pulled together and matched from head to toe. I also tend to accessorize more. My looks are a little more what I call complex; others call it too much.” Another thing they share? The belief that good style can come at any age. They often capture their Instagram photos with the hashtags #eldergays and #advancedstyleolderandwiser.
