T-shirt Sizing is one of the Story points sizing technique to estimate user story usually used in agile projects. It’s a relative Estimation Technique. One idea is this: Men working on the docks at Annapolis, Maryland, in the late 1600s unloaded a great deal of tea. Navy men wearing the equivalent of tank tops offended the British Royal Family who insisted they cover their arms enough to hide their armpits. T shirts are usually sold to fit a chest size range, so must always be larger than the chest , even by a fraction of an inch if skin tight . ( made up sizes follow ) – So a L , ie Large , might fit a 36 / 38 chest , XL ie extra large might fit a 39 / 41 inch chest . I don’t know if men and women’s Ts are cut differently. The sizing depends on the fabric , usually cotton or cotton polyester mix which has some stretch , while nylon mesh can have a lot of stretch to cling to the body . And different manufacturers have did different sizing . Considering other clothes , the size of the fabric will be near the size of where it’s supposed to fit , as in jeans , but the fabric will thicker . Over time most fabric will stretch as the fibres loose their original strength through washing and wearing , so that T you bought a few years ago will not fit as well as when you bought it . Always read the care label to get the best out of all your clothes .
That depends on how you want the oversized shirt to fit. If it’s designed to be loose, then order your regular size medium. It should fit as the designer intended. If you want it to fit snugger, drop down a size to a small, but keep in mind that the sleeves might not fit right. Oversized styles usually maintain regular sizing in things like armholes and sleeve width. It’s always best to make sure you can return/exchange the item if it’s the wrong size. Shirt button sizes are generally 12L (7.65mm) – 20L (12.7mm). Standard shirt buttons for men range between 14L – 16L on sleeve plackets and collars and 16L-18L for front placket and cuffs. For women, shirt buttons can range between 12L – 16L on sleeve plackets and collars and 14L-18L for front placket and cuffs. First I try to check what size the models wearing and get a feel off of that, then I look at the style guide if there is none I look at various style guides through Google for xs, s, m, l in different countries etc and then it’s really a matter of gambling after that. It’s good to know your measurements. You can order-get two sizes that you think will be a good fit and try them both on when they’re present and then return the one that feels less of a good fit. It means it’s neither a “slim” (or “tailored”) fit, “athletic” fit, nor “relaxed” fit. Basically it’s a conservative, “traditional” fit. That being said, the manufacturer pretty much decides what exactly that means.
