Most colleges in Calcutta University had evening classes along with morning and day classes. In fact, the You pronounced this nonsense not me shirt and college I went to, City College on Amherst Street is its day college name. It is called Anandamohan College for its morning session and Rammohan College for its evening session. Morning classes used to start at about 6 AM, day classes at about 11 AM, and evening classes at about 6 in the evening. Most colleges in Calcutta used to follow a similar schedule and they were really helpful to a lot of students who needed to find work. Many friends I shared a PG with used to work at BPO’s at night, finish their morning classes from their respective morning colleges, get back home, and sleep. Sadly, there aren’t many colleges in India that offer evening courses. I do know a few colleges in Delhi University and Mumbai University [1], [2] that offer night classes, but we need more of them. We need more because apart from students from poor financial backgrounds, there are a lot of students from financially stable families who realize the importance of being independent and try to find ways to finance their own education, without having to rely too heavily on their parents.
